Arrival day
Meeting with local representative at the hotel: explanation of the route and bike delivery. Dinner and overnight.
1st day
Rest day Stintino. Visit to Asinara National Park. Asinara is an island that used to house a prison and in 1998 was declared National Park. Its special status has sheltered a range of wildlife, the most renowned species is the white donkey. Alternatively you can enjoy the turquoise waters of crystalline clarity of La Pelosa beach.
2nd day: Stintino-Alghero (65km)
Cycle south towards Alghero and visit Argentiera (abandoned silver mining village) and the Lago Baratz, Sardinia's only natural lake. Alghero is the nicest town in Sardinia with its distinctive Catalan character.
3rd day
Rest day. Stroll along the narrow streets of Alghero, the splendid Aragonese (Spanish) city on the Coral Riviera, where locals still speak the ancient Catalan dialect. Alternatively cycle to Capo Caccia and explore the Nettuno caves.
4th day: Alghero – Bosa (43 km)
From Alghero, bike along a scenic road across the cliffs overlooking the sea and admire the view of the gulf of Alghero and Capo Caccia. Emotions continue as you catch a glimpse of the pink, red and grey cliffs of Cape Marargiu, over which the last examples of griffin vultures circle. You sleep at Bosa, a medieval town famous for its fine embroidery and gold filigree works.
5th day
Rest day. Visit the Malaspina castle and the lovely countryside church of San Pietro extramuros. Alternatively a short leg meanders through the vineyards along the Malvasia wine route, with tasting of these famous DOC wines.
6th day: Bosa-Santulussurgiu (54 km)
Travel through Flussio and Tinnura, where, as in days gone by, the women still weave their wicker baskets. After restoring forces at the San Leonardo spring, cycle through narrow country lanes and reach the village of Santulussurgiu.
7th day
Rest day. Visit the rural museum in Santulussurgiu and cycle to the archaeological site of Santa Cristina to admire the impressive sacred well dating back 1800BC.
8th day: Santulussurgiu – San Salvatore Sinis (50 km)
Back to the sea today with a panoramic descent towards the flat coastal plains of the Sinis wetlands, where you will see colonies of the pink flamingo and finally reach one of the most beautiful spots on the island: the white quartz beach of Is Arutas. A charming countryside hotel is your final stop for tonight.
9th day
Rest day. Visit the fascinating Phoenician ruins of Tharros and the San Giovanni church and taste a glass of Vernaccia, the local dry white wine at one of the cafe along the beach.
